Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to Invest in Welsh Soccer Team

The Actors have have shown interest in investing in the team

Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElgenney are in talks to invest in one of the oldest soccer teams in the world.

Welsh Soccer Team, Wrexham AFC announced that the Deadpool Actor, Ryan Reynolds and the co-creator and star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia made a joint bid for investing in the team.

Currently, the supporters of the team own the third oldest Soccer team in the world, Wrexham through Wrexham Supporters Trust. The fans own the team since 2011.

Previously, the Trust met to discuss the potential investment with 1,223 trust members (97.5%) voted in favor of the takeover. The Wrexham Supporters Trust stated: “As a result, talks with the proposed bidders will now continue and we are in a position to confirm the two people interested in investing in Wrexham AFC”

The statement further read, “In due course, Mr. McElhenney and Mr. Reynolds will put forward their vision for Wrexham AFC and proposal for members to vote on at a second Special General Meeting”

So far the exact nature of the bid is not clear but the news follows the statement from a club that confirmed that the two investors would invest about $2.5 Million immediately.

Response from the Actors

After the news of the potential takeover, both the Actors tweeted about it. The Deadpool star, Ryan Reynolds replied to a tweet from a fan who wrote in 2012, “you never know when Ryan Reynolds will turn up in Wrexham.”

This week, Ryan added: “Yep, You never know.” He further said jokingly that he had been waiting for the last eight years to respond to her message.

While It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Sitcom Star, Rob McElhenney shared a tweet from BBC Sports wales covering the news and used a photo of both the actors that showed Ryan Reynolds winking. He tweeted, “Let’s use this photo moving fwd thx.”

The Soccer team currently play in the fifth tier Soccer in Wales and England and have an average crowd size of 5,000. The Soccer club is currently community-owned. The team also boasts the oldest international Soccer stadium in the world, build in 1864, and is still in use.

Wrexham has never played in the top-flight of English Soccer before but has reached the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and beat Arsenal in the third round of the 1992 FA cup.
